Events

Active Transportation hosts a number of fun and educational events throughout the year to welcome students and staff, celebrate biking, skating, and scooting and encourage safe commuting. Keep an eye on the university special events calendar for more details.

Rams Ride Right

Rams Ride Right is a positive reinforcement campaign where we reward those on rolling active modes on Colorado State University campus for following the law and using safe practices. Target areas within the CSU campus include stop signs, shared trail use, and dismount zones. The program is supported by the Campus Bicycle Advisory Committee, Alternative Transportation Fee Advisory Board, CSU Transportation, CSU Police and The Spoke.

CSU Moves

The purpose of this program is to introduce incoming CSU students and staff to their transportation options on and around campus. CSU Moves also encourages safe and lawful behaviors while traveling in our community, whether bicycling, driving, walking, or using transit.

Learn to Bike and Skate

Bicycling and Skateboarding/Skating are important parts of CSU and Fort Collins’ culture. Not only are they both efficient, low impact means of transportation, but they can be a positive, fun way to move around the community. With relatively flat terrain and mild, year-round climate, CSU is an ideal campus to leave the car behind and use human-power to get around.

For those wanting assistance with learning to bike or skate, visit the City of Fort Collins’ upcoming classes page to register.

Get Back on the Bike

Get Back on the Bike is an annual series of nine classes for CSU employees who want to bike to work, tune up their bike, get safety gear, and learn strategies to travel in traffic. Get Back on the Bike also specializes in helping riders overcome safety or comfort obstacles through personalized travel training. Contact our Active Transportation team for more information on for more info on this program.

Bike and Transit Buddies

Want some one-on-one assistance to prepare for your bike or transit commute? Bike and Transit Buddies are here to help! Active Transportation has teamed up with FC Moves to offer a program that matches you with either a trained Bicycle Ambassador or CSU staff member who can help. Contact our office for information on getting a Bike and Transit Buddy.

Smart Cycling Classes

Smart Cycling is a free, two-part class designed to teach rules of the road, improve skills and build confidence. The first part, “Road Rules” is a four hour classroom session to discuss rules of the road, infrastructure and maintenance, while the second session, “Road Skills,” is a four hour on-bike session to develop bike handling skills to build confidence for riding with traffic on trails and roads.

Smart Cycling at CSU is based on The League of American Bicyclists’ Smart Cycling curriculum, with CSU and Fort Collins-specific information added to prepare the rider for our unique infrastructure and culture. CSU coordinates with the City’s FC Moves programs on many classes, including Smart Cycling. Check out FC Moves’ class webpage for current offerings.

Bicycle Friendly Driver

Learn the best and safest ways to share the road with all road users. Discuss traffic safety laws and responsibilities, and how to avoid crashes or conflicts, and the Colorado Safety Stop Bill. Earn a Bicycle Friendly Driver certification upon completion of the course. Check out Engage through the City of Fort Collins for more details on upcoming Bicycle Friendly Driver courses.

Interested in offering this class to your department at CSU? Please contact our office. All departments are eligible to host this training for their staff.
