Citations & Appeals

Paying a Citation

Citation may be paid online, in the office, or over the phone. Students can transfer citations to their student account.

If action is not taken on a citation within 14 days of issuance, the citation will escalate and double its original fee.

If action is not taken on a citation within 30 days of issuance, the citation will transfer to the Cashier’s Office. Citations that are left unpaid with the Cashier’s Office may result in late fees, withheld transcripts, and transfer to a collection agency.

Appealing a Citation

Any individual is welcome to file an appeal for a parking citation they receive at CSU.

Appeals must be filed within 14 days of the issue date.

If you have any questions about why a citation was issued, please contact our office at 970-491-7041,  [email protected], or stop by the Lake St. Garage.

The Appeal Process

Citations on Active Appeal

Citations on an active appeal are not subject to the 14-day escalation/30-day transfer policy. If a citation has been upheld, the 14-day escalation/30-day transfer period will begin anew on the date the result was issued.

Appeals are typically resolved within 3-5 weeks. Results are delivered via email or USPS and are considered final by the University. Citations upheld by the independent Appeal Board are subject to $10 administrative fees.

Commonly Rejected Appeals

  • I was only parked for a brief period.
  • I am financially unable to pay the fine at this time.
  • I was parked in an ADA space without documentation
  • I parked in a bike lane or fire lane.
  • There was no sign saying I could not park there.
  • I parked here before and did not receive a citation.
  • I had my hazard lights on

Warning Stickers

& Boots

Unpaid citations may result in additional fees and the application of a vehicular boot.

  • Vehicles with four or more unpaid citations are subject to a warning sticker and an associated fee of $40. Vehicles will be subject to a warning sticker regardless of permit status.

  • If citations are left unresolved, the vehicle is subject to receiving a boot and an accompanying boot fee. Once a vehicle has received a boot, all citation fees must be paid before the device is removed.

Unauthorized attempts to remove the boot from the vehicle by anyone other than CSU Transportation or the CSU Police Department are considered criminal violations. Safety or criminal violations are subject to a boot, regardless of the number of active citations.
